Baptism is neither an isolated event nor a magic moment, but the public witness of a life of faith in, and faithfulness to the God we meet in Jesus Christ.
Baptism is a rite that marks the beginning of the life of faith in the Church. While God may very well be working in our lives before we are baptized, baptism is the visible sign (or sacrament) of Christ’s invitation to be welcomed as a part of his Body, the Church.
Baptism marks a new start to life. In baptism, we are accepted and sealed by God with Holy Spirit to faithfully represent Christ to the world.
To journey with Christ in the way of baptism is to commit ourselves to total inner transformation, in community with others.
As we do so, we ask for God’s continuing grace to support us in the task to which we are called–to follow Christ and carry on Christ’s work of healing in the world.
Holy Spirit, who God sends upon the church at Pentecost, strengthens and transforms us in multiple ways: through prayer and worship, through study and learning, through community life, and through our active service and stewardship for the sake of others and the world God loves.
All Christian vocations–lay and ordained, single, married, or religious–are specific expressions of Christian identity rooted in our baptism.
Discerning God’s call is an ongoing, life-long process, in which Christians folk ask where our deep gladness meets the world’s deepest needs. Such discernment deepens and evolves over time.
This section of the website is designed to equip you as you continue to discern your vocation in the world and in the church.
