Do you love Christ and want to serve him by making a difference in the Church and the world? Do you have a vision for what the Church could be, to serve God in this ever-changing context? Have you ever wondered whether the Spirit might be calling you to be a priest?

Priests are called to visibly and winsomely invite God’s people together to be formed in and to embody the way of Jesus in their daily life and work.

Priests Exercise Ministry in a Variety of Ways
  • Through celebrating Holy Eucharist;
  • Through praying and teaching others to pray;
  • Through reading, studying, and teaching the World of God;
  • Through baptizing new believers in Jesus Christ;
  • Through offering care for those who are hurting;
  • Through challenging the unjust structures of our society;
  • Through celebrating the marriages of those God brings together;
  • Through helping people mark the end of life of a loved one;
  • Through participation in the wider councils of the Church

If this sounds like a ministry in which you are interested, the Diocese of Kootenay offers processes of discernment, training, and licensing for those who are being called to serve God as Priests.

The Diocese of Kootenay Needs Priests Who Are:
  • passionate about their faith in Jesus Christ
  • creative thinkers and doers
  • able to interpret this culture to the Church, and the Church to this culture
  • authentically living with integrity
  • self-differentiated, entrepreneurial leaders, ready to take on new challenges
  • committed to being part of the Anglican Church, and excited about exploring new ways of being Church
  • inspiring leaders, team builders and team players
  • compassionate towards the needs of others
  • spiritually and emotionally mature
  • committed to continual growth and renewal for themselves and the church
Training for Ministry

Priests require the successful completion of specific training and theological study approved by the Bishop.

As part of your discernment, you might choose to pursue study and training to deepen your faith and your sense of God's call in your life. This might include taking part in Education for Ministry, or an M.Div program at an approved seminary.

To find out more about available opportunities, you can contact the Rev. Douglas Lewis (kmf@kootenay.info), coordinator of the Diocese of Kootenay's Ministry Formation program.
