Update from Ian Dixon, Camp Director
As we continue moving forward with the rebuild of Camp OAC, we are grateful for the many partnerships that are helping shape the future of the site.Camp OAC has been working alongside a student engineering team from the University of British Columbia Okanagan as part of their capstone project. This collaboration has brought thoughtful analysis, fresh perspectives, and meaningful contributions toward planning the next phase of Camp OAC. This partnership began last fall, focusing on applying engineering knowledge to real-world challenges at the camp. Throughout the project, the team has worked through several key phases including initial scoping of the site’s unique needs and constraints, technical simulations examining elements such as water flow and land features, and ongoing collaboration with our team to refine concepts and align them with the long-term vision for Camp OAC.The students have explored a range of areas such as site layout and planning, infrastructure and services, environmental considerations, and long-term sustainability. Their work has focused on identifying practical, forward-looking solutions that support both the safe use of the site and future development as we continue rebuilding. This work will be presented at the Capstone Project Showcase and Competition on Friday, April 10th from 2:00 to 4:00pm at KF Aerospace Centre for Excellence.
More information about the event can be found here:https://events.ok.ubc.ca/event/engineering-capstone-project-showcase-and-competition/This showcase is a great opportunity to see the work firsthand, learn more about the ideas being explored for Camp OAC, and support the students as they present alongside their peers. We are incredibly thankful for the energy, creativity, and technical expertise this team has brought to Camp OAC. Their contributions are helping lay a strong foundation as we continue to rebuild and plan for the future.Thank you again for the continued support, encouragement, and community involvement that continue to move Camp OAC forward. We look forward to sharing more updates in the coming weeks as we continue rebuilding the magic of Camp OAC — one s’more at a time.
