Incumbent, St. Saviour's, Penticton
The Archbishop of Kootenay invites applications for the position of Incumbent in the Parish of St. Saviour’s Church in Penticton, British Columbia.
St. Saviour’s is located in Penticton in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. It is the only Anglican congregation in a city of 45,000, and some members of the congregation attend from nearby Summerland and Kaleden. The City of Penticton is the largest centre in the south Okanagan and is known for its popularity as a tourist destination and a retirement destination. It is surrounded by beautiful lakes and mountains and is home to nearby Apex Mountain Ski Resort. Penticton is a city experiencing significant population growth. Located about 400 kilometers east of Vancouver and 70 kilometers south of Kelowna it is a major business centre for the region and has a fine hospital, excellent schools and shopping and large recreation and convention centres. There is an airport which provides easy access to Vancouver and Calgary International airports.
The Parish of St. Saviour’s is one of the major parishes in the Diocese of Kootenay. It has an average Sunday attendance of about 75. In their worship, the people of St. Saviour’s value our Anglican tradition while at the same time are open to new expressions of worship and music. The congregation is a self-supporting parish with no debt. The buildings are in excellent repair. The parish has recently undertaken a vision and strategic planning process and has identified four priority areas: Parish Growth, Reducing Expenses, Increasing/Generating Income, and Buildings & Land. They have a strong commitment to outreach, and an ecumenical outreach centre built as addition to their hall provides soup and support on a daily basis. There is a strong music tradition, an active men’s group, ACW, and the parish values its congregational social gatherings which are a source of support, fellowship and conviviality. In addition to the incumbent, the parish has a team of strong lay leaders and non-stipendiary deacons who contribute much to the ministry of the congregation. The parish currently provides support to the small worshipping congregation of St. John’s in nearby Keremeos.
St. Saviour’s congregation is seeking an experienced priest who is a good communicator, a compassionate pastor, a strong teacher and preacher and a leader who can guide them into strengthening their congregational life by supporting the vision of the parish. This is an exciting opportunity within a diocese known for its strong sense of community and creative approaches to ministry.
Clergy with a history of proven congregational leadership who feel called to this ministry are invited to apply with the consent of their bishop. The deadline for applications is March 16, 2018.
